Photography has been a passion of mine since I took my first Polaroid when I was 6. Some of those photos still bring a smile on my face. This is why I do what I do. I love how photos can be funny, emotional, beautiful, artistic, and all of these things at once. Photography is truly about capturing the moment and documenting true life. Memories are delicate and can fade away with time. When I became a professional photographer, this became my goal: create long-lasting images with artistic style, vision, and emotional connection that will last a lifetime.
With a degree in Business Administration from Colorado State University, I always knew I would start my own business someday to serve the community. During my time in beautiful, scenic Colorado, I started to appreciate the artistic side of things, buying my first 35mm film camera, using a panoramic camera, creating DVD's and animation, and becoming the editor of a biannual newsletters.
As I moved to California, I worked as a DVD Programmer/Producer and helped to create hundreds of DVDs for a Warner Brothers and Fox affiliate. I continued to dabble in photography as a hobby, taking photos while traveling and then selling them online. I was truly happy when I was taking photos, so I decided to pursue photography full-time.
As I was setting up my website, I was enrolled in college-level photography classes at Santa Monica College for a few years. I loved learning as much as possible about photography, while shooting almost everyday. I joined the SMC newspaper staff, The Corsair, and enjoyed it immensely. I was later elected to the position of Photo Editor for the newspaper and managed around 20 photographers on their weekly assignments. At the end of my term in Spring 2009, I was awarded the Bryan McLellan Memorial Scholarship for photographic excellence for my dedicated work.
I started my wedding portfolio and incorporated as Nathan Nowack Photography LLC. My style is centered around what I like to call a Modern Photojournalistic Wedding Photography. I like to use colors, lighting, and the environment to capture the moment in an artistic way, but still real and emotional. I continue to help the photography community by holding photography workshops, being an administrator on a forum of 250+ photographers, and networking at local wedding industry events. I’m lighthearted and fun, full of bad jokes, and try to make our sessions as enjoyable and stress-free as possible.
I love to capture both local and destination weddings. A few years back, I was the co-creator and host of an online photography series called Photosodes where we shared information on photography products, tips, and experiences. In 2013, I helped create a new wedding blog for grooms called Wedding-Bros, with good friend and co-founder Jeremy Chou. This amazing website for grooms and men allows them to help with the planning of weddings by finding vendors, get advice on attire, and of course, the basics like song selection, to-dos and not-to-dos, and much more. And finally in 2015, I created and help manage a team of commercial photographers in a company with colleague Kevin Le Vu called Coverve. We capture mainly headshots, product & food photography, real estate, and live corporate events. It's great to work with so many talented photographers as I love helping and growing so many different companies locally and nationwide.
In 2016, I had the pleasure of welcoming my first born son, Kelvin. His joy and presence has given new meaning to my career as I now have experienced first hand the stages that come after marriage. He inspires me to be the best I can be everyday and I can't wait to watch him grow.
