 Profile

I began taking pictures as a hobby starting with my first Polaroid camera.  I captured a flower that had just bloomed from under 2 inches of snow.  I never would have guessed that I would fall in love with photography so much since then. In 2002, I began traveling to different areas of the world capturing stunning landscapes, interesting people, and some beautiful unique animals. With a background in Business Administration, I recently worked as a DVD Producer. This helped me develop an eye for artistic expression and gain a fine attention to detail. Some of these skills were instilled to me early in life; my mother is a professional artist and my father is a photography hobbyist himself.

My mother, Caroline Nowack, is a talented and well-respected local artist in Loveland, Colorado. Her works are displayed in a nationally recognized gallery in Northern Colorado. My father, Gerhard Nowack, is a retired chemist and a frequent dabbler in the art of photography, even winning some awards for photographs developed in a homemade darkroom.

In the interest of advancing my technique, I am constantly continuing my education. I am currently enrolled in photography classes at Santa Monica College on the picturesque southern California coast. These specialized classes have enhanced my knowledge in the areas of black and white, portraiture, journalism, and commercial photography. My thirst for new challenges keeps me learning and growing, allowing me to develop my visions into quality works of art.

I have a genuine love and enthusiasm for photography, which can be seen in all of my photos. I am always willing to accommodate any unique requests. Based in Los Angeles for six years now, I continue to travel the globe for inspiration and photographic opportunities, but am also available for local portrait and wedding commissions. During my sessions for portraits, I aspire to bring out the personality and positive energy of my subjects.  My sense of humor, fun-loving personality, and professional attitude are there to put my subjects at ease in a comfortable, friendly environment.

Equipment

As quality and portability are my number one concerns for my travel photography, I decided to use top of the line Professional Canon digital equipment. I am currently shooting with a 21 megapixel Full Frame Canon EOS 5D Mark II with built in High Definition video and an original 13 megapixel Canon 5D.  I continue to acquire a collection of new L Series lenses, strobes, and equipment.  I prefer shooting in natural light and open shade unless an inside studio with strobes is needed. My digital software includes Adobe Photoshop CS3 for retouching to which then proofs are organized and put into albums on Apple's™ Aperture software.  I am also currently shooting Black & White on a Large Format Toyo 4x5, experimenting with the outcome of those photos.
